About
The Gerber, via the SMART Training Academy offers the most advanced 12 week PAID training processes backed by I-CAR accredited courses learning micro auto skills such as plastic repairs, repair planning, remove & install of parts to fast track your certification as an entry level Trainee – Specialty Micro Auto Repair Technician.
 
No experience is required, and all training is provided on your journey during our 12-week certification program, followed by the 12 month “on the job training and upskill career progression program” During you training, you will be able to take part in various trade based, personal and basic business development short courses providing a foundation for further developing your career.

The SMART Training Academy is a newly formed division of the Boyd and Gerber Collision and Glass which is one of North America’s largest collision brands under Boyd with over 850 locations, providing ongoing opportunities across all states and Canada.
 
We are offering full time and part time job opportunities with flexible working hours to meet employees’ life schedules and work commitment goals.
 
With your training, you will develop new life skills and be introduced to advancing technologies such as PC based cloud and mobile platforms, virtual reality that we use for training, 3D printing, and computer aided design (CAD).
 
Even though we are taking expression of interest across all states, Chicago is our launch pad, and we need ongoing trainees to kick start our initiative.
 
About the Job:
SMART Academy is seeking employees who are interested in long-term employment, job security and want to work for a sustainable division.
 
Candidates will be trained as a trainee, then certified as a technician, where they will undertake ongoing training in various Micro Collision Task listed below.
 
We are looking for people who are motivated, have an eye for detail, can work both independently and within a team, follow the company repair methods, and have great communication skills.
 
Experience in car repair, plastic, or metal welding is a bonus, however anyone with hands-on experience with cars, tools, or any kind of trade type role is welcome to apply.
 
Skills you will learn and be certified in:
  • Plastic Welding & Repairs
  • Vehicle disassembly and assembly
  • Repair Planning & parts tagging
  • Part sanding and preparation
  • Spray painting and texture application
  • Mobile and PC software systems
  • Management, Customer Service & Wellbeing
What you will do:
  • Physical Work: Lifting light plastic car parts and sanding parts
  • Taking parts of vehicles and tagging
  • Plastic welding using fuse welding gun and plastic rods
  • Use equipment such as sanders, air tools, hot air welders & spray guns.
  • Stand for long periods working on parts and cars
  • Use mobile/tablet to enter job numbers and part images
  • Identify plastic and part imperfections via visual & hand inspection techniques
  • May need to work independently and within a team
  • Work within a workshop environment with some noise

Earning capacity stages:

Trainee Salary Training period of 4 to 12 weeks is based on a $17 to 19 flat rate until certified.

After certification as a “Specialty Micro Auto Repair Technician” additional bonuses or commissions could take place.

Driven to Achieve More

Promotional opportunities and further earning capacity available for those candidates who evolve their career from the Plastic repair role, into positions such as Body Technicians, Estimators or Managers.

Work Hours:

Monday to Friday – 8am to 5pm –

Additional hours can be worked based on work load and approval
